Summary & Impact

Addressing the challenge of overthinking outfit choices, the overwhelming array of fashion options, and the lack of stylish, inclusive clothing.

Our goal is to simplify outfit selection, boost confidence, and provide diverse, inclusive options that resonate with different body types and personal styles. The solution will tackle not only practical fashion decisions but also the emotional aspects of how clothing impacts self-perception.

Project explores the intersection of fashion, psychology, and technology How overthinking outfit choices affects confidence and mood also the emotional connection people have with clothing the challenges of inclusivity.

Preliminary Brief :

➡️ Personal style strongly influences confidence and self-image.
➡️ Many overthink outfit choices, leading to stress and wasted time.
➡️ The abundance of fashion options and trends creates confusion rather than clarity.
➡️ Plus-size individuals face limited stylish options, adding to frustration and exclusion.

This results in decision fatigue, reduced confidence, and missed opportunities for self-expression.

Our goal: design a solution that simplifies outfit selection, boosts confidence, and provides inclusive, personalized fashion support for young adults in public settings like college, meetings, and events.

Digging deeper into the research

We also performed real time usage analysis with our fellow classmates. They tried the app called Stylebook and navigated through it which gave us a couple of relatime insights

Key Takeaways

Overthinking and Anxiety: A common issue is overthinking outfit choices, which can lead to anxiety, especially when preparing for important occasions or social interactions. The pressure to fit into social norms or match a certain style group contributes to this stress, and users often plan outfits days or even weeks in advance to mitigate this.

User Retention on Existing Apps: Many wardrobe organising apps ask users to upload photos of their existing clothing pieces/wardrobe or select styles they like from a catalog, input details about their lifestyle which is tedious and discouraging. While some apps offer outfit suggestions, they often fail to consider individual style preferences, moods, or context, resulting in generic recommendations. Many apps do not cater well to different body types or sizes. There is also a big issue in user engagement after the app is set up, users often feel bored to come back to the app for recommendations.
